unicorns and angels, 2022

This artwork references the quasi-mythical language of the disruptive business models around ‘unicorn’

companies. This is an area where the imperative of hyper-fast growth at all costs is ever present. Printed

on each side of the sculpture is the abstracted database containing the valuation of unicorn

companies for the period 2009-2020 as well as the capital pumped in by so-called ‘angel’ investors.

Following the flow of capital, the composition gets increasingly busier towards one side of the artwork,

reflecting the exceptional growth of the unicorn population.
