Damla Yalçın

(b. 1995, Ankara, TR) studied at Ankara Anatolian Fine Arts High School in the Painting Department from 2009 to 2013, graduating with honors. After entering the Painting Department at Marmara University in 2013, she continued part of her education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland, graduating with honors. In 2023, she completed her Master's Program in Textile Department at Marmara University, focusing on sustainability and biotextiles, with her thesis titled “The Place of Biotextiles in Art Practices”. She has participated in various group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad, including Germany, Poland, Korea, Hong Kong, Moldova, Italy, and Cyprus. As part of artist residency programs in Moldova and Italy, Damla Yalçın has been involved in various art initiatives. She opened tree solo exhibions. Besides participating in artist talks, she has also appeared on cultural and art TV programs. She continues her life and artistic production in Istanbul. In her creations, she employs sewing and embroidery techniques, often opting to produce installations that involve the viewer. While transferring traditional elements into contemporary art, she utilizes new media. The synthesis of these approaches takes viewers on a journey exploring concepts of space, memory, identity, and the relationship between humans and nature. The aim is for the audience to accompany the artist on this journey. Her works aim to demonstrate how we fill our living spaces with the dialectics of life, showing how we gradually root ourselves in "a corner of the world." Through her art, Damla Yalçın explores how harmoniously we coexist with nature in our living spaces. Following her thesis, she conducts research and production on bacteria, yeast, and fungi in the field of bioart, continuing her exploration and contributions to this artistic realm.
