“Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?”
A life filled with physical and emotional pain, a prisoner seeking love from the love of her life throughout her lifetime; an extraordinary personality with her clothes, outlook on life, and attitude; unique and free; a woman of love, pain, and revolution…
Frida was forced to lie on her back in a corset for months due to a traffic accident that left her body full of fractures, at the age of eighteen. Unable to bear the pain, her family gave her a canvas and brushes to keep her occupied. Using the mirror hung above her bed, Frida began to paint her self-portrait and everything she saw. Two years later, when she stood up from her wheelchair, she was unaware that she would become the genius ‘Frida Kahlo’ who would create one hundred and forty-three paintings. Frida, who said, “I had two accidents in my life,” referred to her husband Diego as the second accident, who was the love of her life and caused her emotional pain alongside her physical suffering. Every time she fell, Frida managed to rise again through painting, channeling her emotional pain into her art. Picasso once said, “I am not capable of painting portraits the way she does.” Frida, who conveyed her own reality through her paintings while enduring all her pain, has inspired many artists.
