Semiha Berksoy

Semiha Berksoy, with her innate love of art and talent, is one of the most important representatives of the Republican generation and one of the first internationally recognized artists of Turkey. At the age of 19, he was accepted to the Fine Arts Academy, Namık Ismail Atelier and Hakkı Toygar Ceramic Atelier. The next year, he passed the Darülbedayi Theater School exam opened by Muhsin Ertuğrul.

Berksoy, a true pioneer with his versatile approach to art; He takes the stage in the first Turkish movie with sound and the first Turkish opera, and in numerous important performances at home and abroad. The artist, who graduated from the Berlin Higher Music Academy with the first place, is deemed worthy of the titles of "First Class Opera Artist", "Primadonna" and "State Artist". Dedicating his life to art and always interested in visual arts, Berksoy takes part in important international exhibitions such as 1997 Istanbul Biennial, 1998 Manifesta II, 2005 Venice Biennale, 2019 Sharjah Biennial, La Lune Du Voyage Réel aux Voyages Imaginaires (Grand Palais). In 2000, at the age of 90, she sings Wagner's Love Death aria in director Robert Wilson's play "The Days Before" at Lincoln Center in New York.

Semiha Berksoy creates a new dimension in which the limits of life, death and time are transcended, while conveying her passions, loves and pains to her paintings in a linear, ironic and plain language. Berksoy, who puts his own life at the center of his production, does not separate his life and his art; His paintings are an extension of his holistic art education, experience and understanding as well as his courageous, enthusiastic, disciplined and original personality.
