Memed Erdener

About

Memed Erdener first started producing extroverted works with independent references under the name Extrastruggle in 1997. True to its name, this was a project of struggle against the dogmatic propaganda system of the T.C. His affairs were at odds with state ideology and often with the sacred taboo Kemalism. Memed also created a critical view of other dogmatic structures that aim to replace Kemalism. While doing all this, his distant and impersonalized political affiliation has rendered his identity invisible. Maybe that's why Extrastruggle is often thought of as a group project.

Some of the solo exhibitions and presentations she participated in: Beauty of Bigotry (Zilberman Gallery, Berlin, Germany, 2017), I Just Did What I Was Told (Zilberman Gallery, Istanbul, Turkey, 2016), Mother I'm Going to Pour Concrete (with Antonio Cosentino, Studio-X , Istanbul, Turkey, 2015), Solo Presentation (Volta11, Basel, Switzerland, 2015), There is No God, Birds in the Sky (Gallery NON, Istanbul, Turkey, 2014), I Didn't Do This, You Did It (Gallery NON, Istanbul, Turkey, 2010) ) | Group exhibitions: The Red Gaze (Zilberman Gallery, Berlin, Germany, 2016), Istanbul, Passion, Joy, Fury (The National Museum of XXI Century Arts, Rome, Italy, 2015), Minor Heroes (Zilberman Gallery, Istanbul, Turkey, 2015), Objets Trouvés, Delvoyeurs (Galerie Didier Claes, Brussels, Belgium, 2015), Black&White (Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Netherlands, 2013; Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw, Poland, 2011), The 13th Biennial of Art: Pure Expression (Serbia, 2008) and the 10th Istanbul Biennial (Istanbul, Turkey, 2007).
