About

Born in 1953 in Kayseri, the artist entered the State Applied Fine Arts High School in 1973. He graduated from Mustafa Aslıer Workshop in 1978. In the same years, he worked on graphics, illustrations, cartoons and strip tapes in various newspapers and magazines, especially in Hürriyet, Milliyet, Cumhuriyet and Milliyet Sanat. Three of his works were accepted to the Basel Museum of Plastic Arts and Caricature. Between 1978 and 1981, he made graphic works in Switzerland (Zurich) and Germany. He worked on illustrations, comics and painting at Bastei Verlag in Munich and Kelter Verlag in Hamburg. In 1985 he worked for Axel Springer Verlag. He has done covers and comics for Genschpenster Magazine. Her work has been published in Hörzu Magazine in Germany since 1985. He returned to Istanbul in 1997. He made illustrations for Milliyet, Radikal, Elle, Masion Francoise and Options magazines. He participated in Stuttgard, New York and Miami fairs. Karatoprak, who started to live in Kayseri in 2002, still works as a lecturer at Erciyes University, Faculty of Fine Arts.

He has awards such as 1984 Simavi Foundation and Istanbul Municipality Special Awards, 1977 Ministry of Culture Special Award, 1977 second prize Skopje, 1973 third prize Marostica-Italy.
