Nevzat Sayın Labyrinth

Gallery Siyah Beyaz will host Nevzat Sayın's exhibition “Labyrinth” between 20 December 2019 - 13 January 2020.

Nevzat Sayın's sculptures and paintings he has been working on for a while and his drawings that have been piled up in his personal diaries/sketch books, which are in the archives of the architecture office NSMH in İstanbul Kuzguncuk, will be exhibited at Gallery Siyah Beyaz.

Sayın, who previously exhibited his photographs and installation projects in İstanbul, explores the forms of a mathematical and intellectual abstract journey that recalls a labyrinth in general in his works he constructs on the theme of labyrinth, with the language of painting and sculpture, which can be considered as classical branches of plastic arts. In the exhibition, Sayın's acrylic works on canvas are accompanied by his iron sculptures.

Sayın's abstract works, which can be mentioned as produced with an amateur spirit, professional curiosity and critical analytical approach by him, opens up a variety of topics ranging from the question of "modularity" between form and content to the attitude of the viewer and the actor, or of the artist and the art lover against the singular and plural states of the image, to discussion.

Although Nevzat Sayın's “modular” and also independent iron sculptures in the exhibition have a certain size and technical loyalty in themselves, when they come together or are separated, they question both the light and the volume of the place they are in, and the state of objectivity and subjectivity of each eye that look at them.

In this context, the special exhibition newspaper, which is traditionally published by Siyah Beyaz for the exhibition, brings together the signatures with experience in their fields: on the art works of Sayın, accompanied by himself, — in alphabetical order by surname — journalist/poet/writer Dr. Serhan Ada, journalist/art critic Evrim Altuğ, psychiatrist Dr. Tijen Demirörs, artist/archivist Murat Germen, editorial designer/publisher Esen Karol, architect/writer Korhan Gümüş and sculptor Seyhun Topuz are having a conversation.

The signatures who participated in this conversation, through an interactive reading attempt with Sayın, bring the possible interdisciplinary relations that can be established with the theme of labyrinth to the agenda with alternative readings, on the basis of the theoretical and practical approach of the architect.

On the other hand, within the scope of the exhibition, Murat Germen, who considers Sayın's sculptures as aesthetic and photographic points of departure, carries the new images he creates through these works, to Siyah Beyaz, with different forms and presentations.

Artist Nevzat Sayın's exhibition, “Labyrinth” can be visited at Gallery Siyah Beyaz from December 20, 2019 to January 13, 2020, every day except Sundays, from 11.00 to 19.00.
