Toygun Özdemir HAPPY-GO-LUCKY

Happy-Go-Lucky follows an episodic narrative from the life of an imaginary protagonist conceived by Toygun Özdemir, as it was also the case in his previous exhibition Stranger. These episodes from the life of his imaginary character present an impartial and non-directional randomness without implying a linear understanding of time. It shows how a fluent identity oscillates, gets roasted, and occasionally freezes amongst the ambiguities inherent in the contemporary and the quotidian. Thanks to his imagery and his pictorial language, Özdemir today proves to be the most peculiar representative of a painterly way of storytelling within Turkish academic tradition. His expressionist constructs along with his preference of forms, colors, and compositions conveys a contemporary elegance that welcomes life with an enthusiastic and nonchalant flow and blends sharp understanding with an open-minded acceptance.

Toygun Özdemir was born in Izmir in 1986. He graduated from the Department of Painting at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts. Happy-Go-Lucky is his fourth solo exhibition.
