Ali Kotan Death of the Butterfly

“Death of the Butterfly” consists of the paintings that have not yet been exhibited from the “Night Sirens” series, which includes the paintings and texts produced as a result of Ali Kotan’s intellectual conversations with one of the doyens of Turkish literature, Selim İleri, in 2019.

Ali Kotan and Selim İleri define this interdisciplinary exhibition and book project, which consists of 330 artworks, the studies of which lasted about 3 years and dedicated to Faruk Sade as; “the existence and nothingness battle of the text and the image, against the world”. The artworks that will be shown at Gallery Siyah Beyaz from the “Night Sirens” series, which was already exhibited at Folkart Gallery and Cermodern, will be the ones that are included in the book but have not yet been presented to art lovers. The exhibition “Death of the Butterfly”, which is named after one of the artist’s artworks, includes Ali Kotan’s expressionist, abstract and figurative works that we are used to, as well as the works he covered the chaotic eruptions with white.

“Death of the Butterfly”, which is the latest exhibition of the artist, who shares an adventure with Gallery Siyah Beyaz since 1989, will be open to visitors at Gallery Siyah Beyaz between September 19 – October 19, from 12 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except Sundays.
