Serdar Acar A Midsummer Night’s Dream

The artist focuses on loneliness in the present day and the various forms of existence one can experience in isolation. He goes on to create alternative forms of existence for individuals through his painting.

While doing so, he places figures and images in an alternative, surreal, pastoral reality. His compositions appear simple and effortless, in his own words, “as if they belong to a child stuck in limbo” – both growing up and failing to grow up. He leaves spaces and continuities for the viewer to interpret and add to the story on the surface.

Acar explains his minimal artworks with their soft pastel color palette act as “an individual and calm counteraction to the contrasting and colourful contemporary era, in which we are bombarded with ‘things.’” Instead, he applies the depthless and aerial perspective method of Far Eastern art and miniatures.

Natural landscapes, especially mountains and geographic formations of high hills, frequent use of cypress trees and houses, as well as occasionally pink or black lakesides, indirectly suggest a search for meaning beyond the visible. The anticipation of individual interpretations turns these artworks into an interactive area of feelings and thoughts.
