Serkan Demir

About

Serkan Demir’s work generally attempts to map out cultural impressions based on the political climate of his geography. In this map, which he associates with the myths and narratives of the East, he delves into geographical strategies, intervention mechanisms and social practices with an ironic language. One of his most visited themes, namely the limits of the concept of faith and its transformations in everyday life, appears as the main motif in his recent work. Demir works around the general perception of a poetic area of production that stems from the interrelations between the concept of faith and political constructions and the connection of this relationship to societal truth. The political and oppositional depth of this area of production is consolidated by a critical outlook that has its foundations on the structural integrity of societal practices. Demir’s work includes static and dynamic installations and sculptures, and he likens his work to texts of visual investigation. Serkan Demir (b.1975, Kahramanmaraş, Turkey) graduated from Gazi University Painting Department in Ankara in 1999 and completed his graduate degree in Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts, Sculpture Department in 2003. He received his proficiency in art at the same university and department in 2009.
