About

Osman Nuri İyem (b.1987, Istanbul) graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University Film & Television department as a salutatorian after studying film and photography at the University of Miami and film at FAMU.  After completing his masters at the University of Kent at Paris, with his thesis titled ‘’The Relevance of Brecht: a Case Study of Differentiation Techniques on Contemporary Media’’, he has curated and participated in many exhibitions with the Taşeron Independent Art Initiative, which he is the co-founder of. Since 2018, Iyem has undertaken the position of creative director at Evin Art Gallery.

 

The relationships between documentation and fiction is often highlighted in his videos and photos, raising questions about the borders between storytelling and history writing. He is interested in how the information is edited while being transferred and the aesthetical and political motivations behind these edits. Besides his experimental videos and music videos, his first film Clouds (40’, 2019), has been selected to 38th Istanbul Film Festival and has won the audience award at the 7th International Antioch Film Festival. La Chute (2018), Passengers of a Kaleidoscopic Journey (2018), Infinity and The Image (2018), Questions & Answers (2018), Construkt (2019),  How Could Humanity Ever Bow Down! (2020) and A Play in Two Acts (2020)  are among the most recent exhibitions he participated.
