Nergiz Yeşil
About
Born in 1988 in Istanbul, Nergiz Yeşil graduated from Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Sculpture Department in 2014 and continues her Masters degree in the same educational institution and department as of 2017.
The theoretical framework and sensitivity of Yeşil’s practice can be described in the form of “normal-abnormal”. By pointing out the birth-life-death circle, the artist questions the norms, the formation of norms, the controlling majority and the exposure phenomenon. In addition, it is criticised by presenting an alternative mental reality to the relativism of history writing and epistemology with its pre-acceptance that it is cumulative. The artist tries to create the contents of rarity cabinets (cabinet de curiosité), with a combination of everyday-ready objects, trailers from known types of organic material (found or created) or new genre propositions. The biological material derived from the culture of kombucha used to stimulate the speculative species’ skin, is produced by the artist in her workshop through fermentation. This semi-organic material used in the first series of works can be described as Yeşil’s invention.
Nergiz Yeşil contributed to several group exhibitions throughout Europe and Turkey and currently lives and works in Istanbul.
