Meliha Sözeri
About
Meliha Sözeri was born in 1982 in Antalya, and she completed her bachelor’s degree in 2004 in Sculpture Department of Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University. In 2007, Sözeri completed her master’s degree studies in Sculpture Branch of Fine Arts Institute of Marmara University and she also completed her Proficiency Degree in Art at the same department. The artist having continued her academic and artistic studies in Istanbul has attended to miscellaneous national and international exhibitions and has taken parts in national and international exhibitions. Sözeri has published essays and awards. She has initially determined the conceptual frame of the works in the artistic production of the works and the borders of this conceptual framework is built on politics, daily life, individual and social relations in daily life, politics, system and transparency. The academic studies also encompass architecture, city and sculpture. Her master’s thesis had the heading; “Sculptural Forms in architecture since 1970’s”. She focussed on the intersections and interactions of architecture and sculpture disciplines on an artistic view point. The qualification study in art is on; “Sculpture Practices which render upside down the perception within Modern Art”. Held her first personal exhibition in 2018 at Bozlu Art Project Nişantaşı, Sozeri recreates everyday objects mainly using perforated wire material. Semi-transparent wire cloth wraps up all the painstaking hard work and its magnificence like a lace. Questioning conceptual relations thru material and form artist continues to work at her workshop in Istanbul.
