Furkan Öztekin

About

Furkan Öztekin (b. 1993, Tekirdağ) graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Fine Arts Faculty, Painting Department in 2016. The artist pursues his Master degree at Namık Kemal University, Social Sciences Institute, Painting Department. Öztekin participated in several group exhibitions and contests such as Akbank Contemporary Artists Prize Exhibition (2015), Young Fresh Different VII - Gallery Zilberman (2016), Remains - Mixer (2017), Colony-Abud Efendi Mansion (2018), Positive Space - Operation Room (2018), Four Seasons in May – Mixer (solo-2019).  Lastly, the artist studied about LGBTI+ and activism on current art practises in Istanbul Biennial Artist and Research Programme. Öztekin lives and works in Tekirdağ.

Furkan Öztekin’s works focus on the relationship between the society and the individuals with different sexual identities. In his works, we can observe the subjectivity of the queer world that an individual tries to create. He aims to interpret the environment he is in and the ideas he defends with an anti-homophobic attitude.
