Ferhat Özgür

About

Ferhat Özgür was born in Ankara. He graduated from Gazi University, Education Faculty, Painting and Crafts Department in 1989. He obtained his Master and Phd.in Art Degree in Hacettepe University Fine Arts Faculty Painting Department. He is the member of AICA. 

 

Investigating gentrification, migration, identity and geographical matters in his work through painting, photography, video and installation Ferhat Özgür has solo shows in MoMA PS1-New York, Michigan University Museum of Art, Marabouparken – Sweden, Gallery Bernhard Bischoff and Partner-Bern, Album Arte-Roma and Heike Curtze Gallery (Salzburg-Vienna). His last solo exhibition entitled “Animal Farm” took place in The Pill Gallery-Istanbul in 2017. Taking part in the 9th Busan Biennale, 6th Berlin Biennale and 10th Istanbul Biennale, Özgür took part in group exhibitions, festivals and video screening programmes held in numerous institutions including Centre George Pompidou – Paris, Museum of Avant-Garde Zagrep, Haus der Kulturen der Welt-Berlin, Reina Sofia Museum-Madrid, Zabludowicz Foundation-London, Göteborg Konsthall Museum der Moderne Salzburg, MUMOK-Vienna and Pittsburgh Art Museum etc. He was invited to Artist-in-Residence Programme in Akedemie der Künste der Welt – Cologne, Alanica – The Nort Ossetia, Cite des Arts Internationale-Paris, The Nort Rhein Wesffalia-Bochum. He has two books entitled “Documentary, Short Movie and Video Art, by Doruk Publishing-2017) and “Contemporary Turkish Painters: Turan Erol by Yapi Kredi Publishing-1999), both in Turkish.
