Erdal Duman

Erdal Duman's sculptures question the lost reality of social experiences during representation. It focuses on local and global political movements and social realities such as war, civil struggle, and migration, as well as horrors that are altered and mythical, and qualities that are quantitated. The artist seeks to illuminate the familiar violence embedded in society by subtly overthrowing forms and ideologies, both covert and overt, oppressive.

For Erdal Duman, who deals with the problem of representation and its connection to the collective imagination, every depiction is actually a rewriting that loses and re-creates the object it represents.

Erdal Duman (b. 1976, Germany) graduated from Hacettepe University, Department of Sculpture in 2002, and completed his master's degree at the same institution in 2006. He was the founder of the Yaygara contemporary art initiative in 2007 and organized exhibitions and panels.
