Biography
After graduating from Dokuz Eylül University Painting Teaching Department in 2002, she completed her master's degree in Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Painting Department in 2006. She is still attending the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Basic Art and Design Proficiency in Art Program. The artist, who lives in Istanbul, produces painting, photography and video works at the same time. The artist is one of the co-founders of TOZ Artist Run Space, which operated between 2015-2017, and she is the co-founder and executive of NOKS Independent Art Space which is still active.
Artist Statement
Elvan Ekren's artistic practice includes various disciplines such as photography, video and painting. To talk about a common starting point; The concepts of belongingness, the artificial formation of the relationship between nature and human, and daily life are at the forefront. It aims at a fine line between what belongs to the present and the past in its productions.
In her works, he evaluates the relationship between nature and humans from an urban perspective and comments on the gap and blindness in this relationship. The series, which belongs to a period in which the connection of the urban person with nature emerged as a political resistance, joins this resistance with an internal reaction.
