Didem Erk

About

Using performance, video, installation and text as tools, Didem Erk continues her research on the poetic aspects of language, memory and border concepts related to space in her works. Examining the possible flaws and fictionalities of memory in connection with the performative aspects of the act of remembering, the artist completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design at Sabancı University.

The main exhibitions that Erk has participated in include “Nonlinear Histories: Transgenerational Memory of Trauma” (ReflectSpace Gallery, Glendale, CA, USA, 2018), “TarraWarra International 2017: All That is Solid…” (TarraWarra Museum of Art, Australia, 2017), “Home is the Place Called Impossible” (x-ist, Istanbul, 2017), “Blow Up: I Saw the Melon” (SALT Galata, Istanbul, 2017), “Are You Still Alive? – Voices of Conscience at a Time of Silencing” (Steirische Kultur Initiative, Graz, Austria, 2017), “House of Wisdom” (Berlin & Amsterdam, 2017), “Stay With Me” (Belvedere Museum, Vienna, 2016) and “ Mother Am I a Barbarian?” (13th Istanbul Biennial, Arter, Istanbul, 2013).
