Ayla Turan

Ayla Turan was born in Hamburg in 1971. She studied Sculpture at Faculty of Fine Arts, Mimar Sinan University. Turan’s sculptures are playful and dynamic; she often uses the shapes of daily objects like toys and games, and her images always involve some kind of motion. Although these sculptures can not really move, the idea of motion is an important part of the image. Turan has been working on a series of stone, metal and polyester sculptures, meant for the public space, in which she engages with current problems in society. In these works, she presents human figures in a minimalistic style as symbols for what she wants to support or denounce. In these works, the kind of courage and encouragement that was described earlier, come very much to the fore.
