Ahmet Cerkez

Ahmet Cerkez brings to the surface the subconscious tension that stems from the effort put by human beings into understanding their place in an inconceivably vast universe. Çerkez weaves together his story, which he begins to relate using his rational lines in a rather unplanned manner, with pieces of his personal experience of immigration at early ages. With his use of limited color palette, rough picture surface, and a plain manner of expression, Çerkez focuses on a series that is limitless in the frame of the dichotomy of life-death and that does not refer to any specific place but still carries traces of time and experiences. While the artist transfers dried petals, rust stains and pencil lines to the surface, the color value of which will change over time, he also sets the boundaries of a structural type of statelessness by leaving traces on the plan of the “place” that doesn’t belong anywhere.
